This week's block is a plus sign themed block. It's fairly simple, especially in the 9" size, so it takes some interesting color choices to make it pop. The designer is Briguitte Heitland, and it was a fairly simple one to put together.
My first attempt took a lot of background fabric and added in three colors. It's simple, but also felt a bit dull so in the 4.5" version, I tried doing some color stacking so that it appeared to be graduated. I loved, loved, loved how this nine patch with some stripping turned out!
So, today I tried a different variation of the color stacking, using background as the secondary corner blocks. I then did a fussy cut of a red rose for the center. I really like these last two blocks and look forward to adding them to the quilt top!
