MBH4: The Top is Done!

studiosebb-0a

On Saturday, I sewed on the final borders on the quilt and took it down to the Longarmer (Wildflower Quilt Co.) for machine quilting services.

The stats: The quilt consists of 42 9" blocks (7 rows wide and 6 rows tall). Final measurements are 95" x 85". The fabric is the Sweet Beginnings line, purchased from Shabby Fabrics (Two layer cakes and some yardage for the borders).

I've been considering names. One of the things I'm thinking about is The Awakening or Transitions.

The quilt turned out to be a journey I couldn't have anticipated, and didn't know I needed.

I began it in March, and wrapped up the last block on 9/22/22. Less than seven moths, but a huge change in my professional life and in my own healing journey.

I was in a senior position that I had held for nine years, at a company I had worked at for nearly 16 years. But in March, things started getting really tense at work, and I found myself really unmotivated and not managing my stress well. But still, the thought of leaving this job was something I couldn't yet fathom, even though everyone in my life knew it was the right choice.

Sewing this quilt gave me some relief that I truly needed. I woke up every Wednesday morning, ready for the new pattern and spent an hour sewing and trying to de-stress before going to work.

By late July, I was finally ready to leave. Joyously, I had a great offer and an exciting new position much faster than anticipated, and was able to resign by the end of August.

The last block was released the morning of my last day of work, and so this quilt truly represents the timing of my transition and my journey toward a fresh start, true healing, and a choice for me and health.

The line at the long armer is longer than I've seen it (their 20% off deal was a hit), so I'm not sure when I'll get the quilt back, but I'm excited to get the top back, and to celebrate the changes in my life with a completed project!

And the best part of the quilt is that it's even Molly Approved!

Thanks for stopping by!
