From the Archives: Earthy Batik Blocks

Updated: Jul 22, 2022

This quilt often hangs in our front hallway, greeting visitors and providing a bit of texture to the space.

It was a quilt kit that I purchased from Eagle Creek Quilt Shop (In Shakopee, MN) and sewed together, in the early 2010s. This one has a very simple, home-done, "stitch in the ditch" top quilting, that's not too close together. The back is made scrappy-style with the leftover pieces of the batik quilt.

The thing I love most about this quilt, other than the simplicity and those earthy browns and tans and greens, is that the color perfect matches the green of the hallway, and is the one thing that makes the paint color make sense to me!

I often think about doing some more excited top quilting on it, but I do love the fact that the pattern I used leaves the fabrics and the piecing as the main star. Plus I don't want to ruin it!

Thanks for stopping by!
