Bossa Nova Block 6: The final block!

This is a very atypical color (well, series of colors) and pattern for me... and that might be why I am absolutely loving how it's looking and turning out (so far, hopefully that doesn't jinx me). I did discover in doing block 1 & 2, that because the batik is much thinner than the black "background" fabric, I needed to press it with Best Press to help it have a bit of body.

I originally was just going to do the "marinate the background" method of starch, but that only served to highlight the difference in thickness, so I ended up using starch pretty liberally when pressing out each batik round while making the blocks, in addition to starching before cutting out the blocks.

Here is block six, about to be cut out. It's already pressed and starched:

A first in this pattern: fussy cuts! Because the center quilt block for #6 is the pink/brown stripe on the top left, and there is no brown in the quilt, I have to fussy cut the 2.5" blocks, focusing on the pink tones in the stripes.

Once I finish the rest of Block 6 (so far, I've just done the hearth (round 1) of all 5 and then finished all of 1 block so I could see what it looks like), I have to add the five blocks into the rows, and sew 4 rows together... and it's all done!

Thanks for stopping by!
