Yesterday, the statewide quilt hop brought me to Quilted Treasures in Rogers, MN, where I found a fun new project. It's a book with 52 potholders -- all with fairly simple, beginner-friendly, 8.5" blocks.
I've been enjoying my Moda blockheads 4 and the A Quilting Life Block of the Month so much, that i though a weekly potholder project might be a great way to practice my top quilting on my new machine, on small and bit-sized projects. Plus, it would be a great way to use up some of my Mt. Scrapmore and create some pretty and functional presents.
So for the first block, I took a few of the layer cake 10" squares left over from the Boho Chic fabric line (Moda, circa 2013) that I used to finish the butterfly quilt for my sister. In the process of making the block, i realized that the author used some techniques that I'm not a fan of (cutting the square to get bias-edge triangles to sew together, rather than sewing two and cutting in half). So I made some notes for next time I use this pattern.
I have definitely been learning a lot about patterns and designs, as I've made more "traditional" blocks. Also have definitely been finding the techniques that I like the best, and am slowing walking toward wanting to do my own pattern writing!
With no further adieu, here is my first block. Not yet a potholder, but the block and binding is finished and waiting!
Thanks for stopping by.
