A Quilting Life's Block of the Month: May

Updated: Jul 23, 2022

Sherri from A Quilting Life just posted the pattern for her May quilt along, and this is my interpretation:

I am enjoying the sew-along, and I love to watch her tips... but am finding that she likes to pick the hardest way to get to her final look in a quilt. The May block was also a little bit fussier than I prefer. But unlike the April block, I didn't feel the need to scrap her directions entirely and get to the same final look with a much easier pattern. This one called for sixteen 2.5" half square triangle blocks finished with a Churn Dash boarder, but all the HSTs were pieced two at a time (on the diagonal of 3" squares). I definitely would have preferred an option to do this eight at a time, but I understand not everyone bought yardage to complete the top.

This time, I tried again to use the triangle ruler to trip the pieces, and am not happy with the results in the first few blocks, so I moved back to trimming with a 2.5" square ruler after it was ironed and done. That gives me much better results!

Here are all the blocks together:

I am really enjoying this fabric line and can't wait to see the whole top completed.

Thanks for stopping by!
