In January, Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life announced her 2022 Block of the Month! This set of twelve blocks is available in two sizes (12.5" and 6") and features a really cute churndash border on all the blocks with a different center block.
I decided to use the Lewis & Irene Fabric Line "Queen Bee," which i am absolutely loving. Love it so much, in fact, that my niece and I are going to use it to make her first quilt when she comes up from college this spring!
The blocks are released on Sherri's blog on the first Thursday of every month. I joined in a bit later in January, and missed the very first launch, but am up to date with April's block done.
The Sawtooth Star was #1. I really love the way that these blocks are coming together using the Best Press -- it really does make them look so nice and crisp!
February was a Pinwheel and March was a much more complicated Sawtooth with a four-page in the center, that I fussycut to highlight the bee and hive.
For April, I broke protocol with Sherri's pattern. She wanted it to be a more traditional four patch that is set en pointe, made with lots of corner triangles. I tried it, but it came out way too small, way too bulky, and way too many seams to line up.
So... I went rogue. Perhaps I was inspired by all the quilt podcasts I've been listening to, all these quilt designers talking about how they don't just follow a pattern, they mix it up and adjust it. Whatever the inspiration, I made it via a granny square method, using 3.25" squares. I really LOVE the way this turned out. So much better!
I have no idea what the final quilt will look like. With 12 of the same borders, now I worry it might be a bit boring, but maybe I'll do something inspired like setting them en pointe. Time will tell!
Thanks for stopping by!
