As 2022 gets underway, I was inspired to make some choices to achieve some of my long-term goals. Like so many people around the world, the pandemic gave me unprecedented time at home - and a need to stay away from some external stressors like the news and network TV. I fell into a bit of a wormhole, first with Homesteading channels, which then morphed into home food presevation and canning, and then into whole-house decluttering and a sort of minimal approach to personal belongings and home clutter (I'll share more about some of these aspects and projects in future blog posts).
As I entered the final months of 2021, and another northern Midwestern winter faced me, I decided it was time to finally get my sewing studio in order. It had become a dumping ground, with way too many projects piled up in the closet and in big plastic bins.
After a pretty big purge of kits and fabrics and projects that I no longer wanted to make, I was left with some things I had forgotten I had even started. So I entered 2022 with the intention to complete some of my oldest Unfinished Objects, learn some new quilting skills, and spend more time sewing.
I was successful. I completed an Elizabeth Hartman quilt (to the left, with my border collie "manager" Molly) that I had purchased the kit for, years ago (Lepidoptera). And then the next quilt was staring at me... the Pixilated Peekaboo Pumpkin. That top finished, I started A Witches Night Out (yes, I realize it's atypical to sew two Halloween quilts over the Christmas/New Years holidays, but I like to think I've VERY prepared for 2022!).
By the time March rolled around, I had finished about 7 quilts (including long arming and binding). My intention for March was "sew everyday, even if just a little". And I have found such joy, creativity and peace in doing it!
Tonight, as I sit in the kitchen, watching my All American canner process some pints of potatoes for my pantry, I was working on my various hobby journals -- one for gardening, another for canning, and another for quilting and sewing projects. I realized that it might be time for me to start a blog, just to track my own progress on the projects and things I complete (or just attempt) in 2022.
