Continuing through my backlog of 2022 completed quilts and sewing projects, I present the Charming Star quilt and table topper!
In all, I sewed two versions of the "Charming Star" pattern from It’s Sew Emma/Melissa Corry of Happy Quilting as presented in their Charming Baby Quilts book. The pattern uses 5” square Charm Pack precuts and background to create approximately 40" square crib/baby quilts.
The first one (pictured above) was sewn with Bella Solids background in a dark grey, and three charm packs of Tula Pink Fabric (and Tula Pink backing). The hexagon top quilting reflects the hexagons in a number of the prints (and the backing). It'll make a great baby gift for a long-time colleague and friend who is expecting her first child (a baby girl)!
It was a great pattern and easy to follow, and really allowed me the chance to practice my half square triangles (HST) and work on improved piecing and precision.
I liked this pattern so much, that I also created a table top version, using 2.5" mini charm squares. It used about 4 packs of mini-charms, and it was much more challenging to work with smaller blocks!
To make the topper big enough, I increased the pattern by one row of HST around the entire thing (to simplify it... the math was slightly more complicated than that). This one used a bright and sunny fabric that will be perfect to grace our table during the warm days that are coming soon!
Thanks for stopping by!
